Abstract
Hamburg politics have continued confidence in an excellent public transport (ÖPNV) offer, to switch mobility from car use to bus and rail services. This article gives an overview on the individual measures which are taken to extent the public transport capacities considerably and make the offer even more attractive. With regard to the design process of the net extension, their focus is on an 'upgrade' from the suburban and regional lines to a non-stop city rail from the Holstein area to the Hamburg city. Currently, the ongoing construction of the U4 to the new development area eastern HafenCity is implemented. Also the program to accelerate the bus transport system which has been decided on at the end of 2011 and which should show fast improvements for seven metro bus lines. Since May 2013, the pilot project Switch has connected the individual offers for public transport with those of private cars, car sharing and bike renting systems.
