Hugh Stubbins, der seine lange Karriere als Assistent von Walter Gropius in Harvard begann, zählt ohne Zweifel zu den bedeutenden internationalen Architekten der Nachkriegsmoderne. Seine Hochhausbauten, insbesondere das Citicorp Building in New York, verhalfen ihm zu Weltruhm. Auch in Deutschland hinterließ er ein Beispiel seines Könnens: die Berliner Kongresshalle von 1957.
