Abstract
Around the world, digitalisation changes the way passenger transport operates, as new services like Uber, shared mobility or Robotaxi show. The authors provide an overview as well as their definition of the main terms and service elements. Developments in Germany over the last 40 years are summarised, including the "Rufbus" as well as shared taxis and app-based demand-responsive transport. Considering the potential impacts of these new concepts, it is worth asking whether they should be seen as a passing "hype" or have real potential for disrupting the way passenger transport is conceptualised.
