Abstract
There are many different aspects to ensure barrier-free access of platforms and trains. They range from information and service to building operations. Today, barrier-free access equals a design for all addressing all travelers. It is the long term goal of Deutsche bahn to provide barrier free access in all of its train stations. The article elucidates the legal framework for barrier-free implementation steps defined by the UN, the EU and the German State. Furthermore, it elaborates on selected building operations to eliminate hindrances in train stations, such as: Providing step-free access to platforms via elevators or ramps, providing optimized platform heights, providing directions, providing visual and acustic customer information.
