Abstract
Large urban transport infrastructure investments have a wide socio-economic long term impact. Due to the fact that large scale infrastructure investments are cost intensive it is often hard to argue their benefits. Therefore, a lot of indicators - mainly ignored in a traditional cost benefit analysis - have been identified by a socio-economic ex-post evaluation enabling an overall assessment, which also considers third party effects in the fields of urban regeneration, economics, estate markets etc. As a case study detailed analysis were carried out on the Viennese metro line U3, passing through the city centre. Collected data lead to the conclusion of the existence of such effects, especially if including the long term perspective. difu
