Abstract
In Germany, public transport has become more and more attractive in the past years, and the number of passengers has steadily increased. Nevertheless, the importance of public transport cannot be assessed appropriately considering only general figures. Especially in urban areas, focuses of economic activity and growth in Germany, a more detailed approach is necessary. Therefore, ProgTrans AG (Basel) and the Lucerne School of Business (HSW Luzern) reviewed 14 relevant fields, based on statistics, primary data, case studies and grey literature and presented them as fact sheets on behalf of the VDV (Association of German Transport Undertakings). The results emphasise the outstanding importance of public transport in Germany from an economic as well as a social and ecologic point of view. difu
