Abstract
In December 2010, Riedberg, a fast growing district in the north of Frankfurt, will be connected via a 4 km new line to the city railway net of the Main metropolis. Timetabling and vehicle scheduling were challenging. Two new lines (U8 and U9) having different destinations and end points needed to be interlinked and to be connected to an already existing and heavily overcharged A-line (U1, U2, U3) of the Frankfurt city rail system. The manager of the timetables had to consider six line crossings at grade; four of them were new established. Furthermore, the bus lines had to be taken into consideration. However, despite the constraints given, they managed to establish a customer-friendly offer and easy to handle.
