Abstract
Because of the regionalization of some European rail nets and the resulting tendering procedures, the rolling stock landscape has changed dramatically in some countries. Since 1994, the industry itself has developed new diesel motor train sets. Now, electric rail cars will follow which are to be net licensed. As they are air-conditioned, they offer travelling convenience never had before on these lines. In Germany, the DB AG started with the type ET 425/426 at an early stage. The borderline between regional rail and tram way application is often difficult to define. This article reports on four vehicle types which are (to be) used as regional rails in Germany.
