Abstract
For the improvement of the traffic conditions and the mobility in the large towns of the world new undergrounds, light rails and tramways were built within the last few years, further lines are in the construction or planning phase. New, economical and low noise tracks make the putting into action of new lines easier. In a work package of the EU research project urban track the state of the art was combined. This work was carried out separated for the 3 typical track formations: tracks in tunnels and on bridges; tracks on a special, independent track (separated right of way on the surface) as well as tracks embedded in roads. These three situations were looked separately. For these situations effective methods were shown for refurbishment and renewal of available tracks.
