Abstract
Das Sauerland ist die Ferienregion mit den meisten Besuchern in NRW. Hier fanden sich 1997 mehrere Orte zusammen, um ihren Urlaubern die Sauerland-Card anzubieten. Neu war vor allem, dass die mit dem Kurbeitrag erworbene Karte neben Vergünstigungen bei Freizeiteinrichtungen die kostenlose Nutzung der Linienbusse beinhaltete. Das zunächst nur als Probephase angelegte Modell hat sich bis heute gehalten, die freie Nutzung der Nahverkehrsbahnen ist dazugekommen und weitere Orte haben sich angeschlossen. Ein Erfolgsmodell für den sanften Tourismus.
The Sauerland area in the German state Nordrhein-Westfalen is the holiday area with the most visitors in Nordrhein-Westfalen. In 1997 several cities joined together to offer their visitors the so-called Sauerland-Card. The tourists received this card by paying their visitor's tax and it included several discounts for leisure activities. The new idea was, however, that the card should also include a free usage of the city line. What was first meant as a trial has lasted until today and even a free usage of the short distance traffic trains was added. Some more cities even joined the project. This is a successful model for green tourism.
