Abstract
The so-called 'Widerstandsfunktionen' are crucial in their influence on transport in larger cities. This study is focused on three different categories of cities and four vastly different 'Widerstandsfunktionen' whose influence is reviewed and documented. Contrary to past reports, the current analysis deals with non-homogeneous urban settlement structures - since they provide a more realistic background. The reaction of functions with both a strong and weak 'Verkehrswiderstand', form the usual basis. It is surprising that the comparison of homogeneous and non-homogeneous use shows a negligible difference with regard to inland transport, traffic results and achievability as long as this difference is kept not too large. An attempt has also been made to identify pedestrians share in traffic. In conclusion, a new urban settlement structure - in the form of a spiral - is being proposed which, against the background of a strong 'Verkehrswiderstand', could offer notable advantages even in the case of non-homogeneous use. difu
