Polyzentrale Stadtregionen - Die Region als planerischer Handlungsraum.

Abstract

Polyzentrale Stadtregionen sind kein gänzlich neues Feld in planerischen Diskussionen, wurden aber in den vergangenen Jahren verstärkt in den Fokus gerückt. Zunehmend werden Fragen und Perspektiven polyzentraler Stadtregionen für die Raumplanung sowohl als morphologische Raumstruktur wie auch als planerisches Konzept diskutiert und der Blick wird ausgedehnt bis zu polyzentralen Verwaltungs- und Governance-Strukturen. Hierzu haben nicht zuletzt Jahrzehnte der Suburbanisierung und der Globalisierung geführt. Dieser Artikel blickt auf Basis von Veränderungen im Verhältnis von Stadt und Umland sowie sich daraus ergebenden aktuellen Herausforderungen auf laufende planerische Diskussionen zu polyzentralen Stadtregionen, wie sie auf der Tagung des Jungen Forums 2011 der ARL in Dortmund aufgegriffen wurden.Polycentric city regions are not an entirely new field for planning discussions but are increasingly pushed towards a central role. Questions and perspectives of polycentric city regions for spatial planning are equally discussed either as morphological structure or as planning concept as far as to polycentric administrative and governance structures. Not least, decades of suburbanisation and globalisation have contributed to this. This article looks at contemporary planning discussions on polycentric city regions on the basis of changes in the relation between core city and hinterland and arising new challenges for spatial planning. These questions have been picked up at the 2011 conference of the ARL Young Professional s Forum in Dortmund.
