Abstract
Medical support in rural areas will become more difficult due to the demographic change, especially if there is no suitable bus connection and the people affected are "not considered sufficiently ill", therefore not being entitled to get a medical drive. In order to close this gap some patient busses haven been implemented in Germany since 2012. They are primarily used to transport patients to and from the medical institutions. This report presents six German "patient bus projects" as well as the relevant research project Integrated Emergency Service Control Center for Medical Intercourse and Public Transport (ILSE). It becomes clear that transport and health care may have overlaps but with the patient bus they have options for actions which are mutually advantageous.
