Abstract

" Das Wasser bedenken" ist ein Appell an unsere Wachsamkeit. Es gilt im Angesicht zunehmender Hochwassergefahren eine angemessene planerische und architektonische Kompetenz zu entwickeln und mit Kreativität ins Werk zu setzen. Wir wählten die Methode des Wettbewerbs als Instrument, um Praxisbeispiele hochwasserbewussten Handelns zu dokumentieren. Mit 59 Einsendungen zum 3. Internationalen Rheinland-Pfalz-Preis des rheinkollegs 2008 kam ein Projektspektrum aus dem gesamten Rheineinzugsgebiet zum Vorschein. Der vorliegende Katalog will Ideengeber, Fundus und Arbeitshilfe sein für Planungsaufgaben an Flüssen. Die Auseinandersetzung mit den Projekten des Katalogs und ihrem Pilotcharakter möge zum qualitätsvollen Umgang mit der Flusslandschaft vor der Haustür inspirieren. Ausgewählte Interviepartner und Gastbeiträge verweisen auf die Bandbreite und Aktualität des Themas. "Das Wasser bedenken" heißt Entwicklungspotentiale wecken, Strukturen und neue Lebensformen entwickeln, die auf das Leben mit dem Hochwasser ausgerichtet sind."Being aware of the water" is a plea for heightened awareness in the context of increasing flood danger. It is a call for competency in planning and architecture that is adapted to control floods and for creativity in theri implementation. We chose a competition as a means to document examples of actual flood resilient planning and construction. 59 submissions were received for the rheinkolleg's third International Rheinland-Pfalz Prize of 2008, an entire spectrum of projects from the entire Rhine River Catchment Area. This catalogue is meant to be a source of inspiration for ideas, a resource and a working tool for river project planning. Close examiniation of the prototypical projects in the catalogue will hopefuly inspire high-quality approaches to riverscapes - for use in the real world. Interviews with chosen experts and guest contributions reflect the topic's the broad range and relevancy to the present. "Being aware of the water" entails unleashing development potential and developing structures and new forms of habitation that are adapted to flooding.
