Abstract
In 2014, a citizen bus association was established in Malente in order to improve public service for socially deprived, handicapped or people in special circumstances. Despite difficult framework conditions, it was possible - with the financial support of the town council and the district - to obtain permit-free authorization for the citizen bus initiative. The project was successfully launched in January 2017. With a double loop, clever using the schedule gaps in the public transport, all villages in the community have been continually served. Instead of paying fares, the passengers make actively use of the donation box in the vehicle. The number of passengers has risen steadily since its inception and reached 4400 passengers in the first year of operation.
