Weltjugendtag in Köln: Herausforderung für den ÖPNV. Welche Lehren lassen sich aus den Erfahrungen Roms ziehen?

Abstract

Der Papstbesuch zum XX. Weltjugendtag im Erzbistum Köln stellt sowohl die Organisatoren als auch die Verantwortlichen im Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) vor eine große verkehrsplanerische Herausforderung. Mehrere Hunderttausend junge Menschen aus allen Teilen der Welt werden am 20. und 21. August zur Abschlussveranstaltung mit Papst Benedikt XVI zum Marienfeld - einem ehemaligen Tagebaugelände im Rhein-Erft-Kreis - pilgern. Hierfür stellen die Deutsche Bahn und viele kommunale und private Verkehrsunternehmen zahlreiche Sonderverkehre zur Verfügung.
