On behalf of the German motor club ADAC the department for transport planning and traffic engineering at Stuttgart University conducted a comparative analysis of the Public Transport in 24 European major cities. The test is designed to reflect the customers' point of view. The required data for the test is collected using web based journey planners, on-site-tests and the internet. Each city is evaluated using a standardised scheme in the four criteria supply quality (e.g. travel time, operation time), transfer quality (e.g. connections within Public Transport and to cars/bikes), information quality (e.g. at stops, on the internet) and tickets/prices. The article describes the methodology of each criterion with a focus on the supply quality, which is evaluated according to the German guideline on integrated network planning.
