Abstract

Das Buch stellt einen zusammenfassenden Überblick über die klimatischen und lufthygienischen Verhältnisse einer für das Ruhrgebiet repräsentativen Großstadt dar. Hierzu wurden über ein Jahr lang Daten stationär sowie mobil im Stadtgebiet erfasst. Über die Analyse und Darstellung des gegenwärtigen Essener Stadtklimas hinaus erfolgten Aussagen zur menschlichen Wärmebelastung sowie die Bestimmung der turbulenten Wärme- und Kohlendioxidflüsse exemplarisch für Stadt und Umland. Mit Hilfe langjähriger Trendaussagen ließen sich darüber hinaus lufthygienische Verbesserungen, aber auch klimatische Veränderungen während der vergangenen Jahrzehnte nachweisen. Aussagen zum zukünftigen Klima von Essen und seiner Region konnten auf der Basis numerischer Modellanalysen getroffen werden.The Climate of Essen gives a comprehensive overview of climate and air quality conditions in a city representative of the Ruhr area. For this purpose, data were recorded at fi xed stations and using mobile measurement equipment within the city area for more than a year. In addition to an analysis and presentation of the current urban climate in Essen, thermal stress for inhabitants and turbulent heat and carbon dioxide fl uxes were considered for sample stations in the city and the surrounding area. On the basis of long-term trend assessments, it was possible to identify air quality improvements and climate changes over the past decades. Statements concerning the future climate of Essen and its region were made on the basis of numerical model analyses. The Climate of Essen represents the completion of almost 30 years of activity by the Department of Applied Climatology at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
