Potenziale von BRT-Systemen. Das Beispiel von Seattles Schnellbussystem "RapidRide".

Abstract

Seit Mitte der 1950er Jahre wird in deutschen Großstädten das Angebot im öffentlichen Personennahverkehr durch "Premium-Versionen" im Bussektor ergänzt. Deren Profile und Erfolge sind bis heute vielfach nicht überzeugend. Als lohnendes und geeignetes Vorbild für die künftige Gestaltung von Schnellbussystemen auch in deutschen Metropolen und größeren Städten wird die sehr anspruchsvolle und systematische Konfiguration des seit 2010 unter der Bezeichnung RapidRide im Aufbau befindliche Schnellbus-System in der Metropolregion Seattle im äußersten Nordwesten der USA erachtet; das gilt nicht zuletzt im Kontext mit der aktuellen Diskussion um die Luftverschmutzung durch den motorisierten Straßenverkehr.Since the mid 1950s the transit systems in several mayor German cities are complemented by "premium-versions" of rapid bus-services, called Expressbusse , Schnellbusse or Eilbusse . The profiles and successes of the respective products are not everywhere convincing to date. As an advantageous and highly appropriate model for the future design of Bus Rapid Transit systems (BRT) in German cities should be taken the RapidRide System in the metropolitan area of Seattle in the far northwest of the United States. The system is stamped by a very ambitious and systematic configuration. The first line opened service in 2010; the system will be expanded substantially within the next decades. It is not at least an important component of Seattle s successful fight against pollution.
