Automobilität - Die Grenzen als Chance. Automobility - How to view its limitations as opportunities.

Abstract

Seit den 1950er Jahren hat sich der Autobestand in den Industriestaaten vervielfacht. In Österreich gibt es heute 30 mal mehr Pkw als noch im Jahr 1955. Die Folgen der Massenmotorisierung sind vielfältig. Neben der gesteigerten persönlichen Beweglichkeit, die der motorisierte Individualverkehr für Menschen bringt, zeigt sich auch die Kehrseite der Medaille. Die Unfallgefahr im Straßenverkehr ist hoch, Ressourcenverbrauch und CO2-Emissionen steigen. Die Broschüre fasst Daten und Fakten zur Automobilität zusammen. Es wird kritisch hinterfragt, ob nicht die Nachteile des derzeitigen Mobilitätssystems gesamtgesellschaftlich die Vorteile aufwiegen. Die Trends zur Steigerung der Effizienz des Pkw-Verkehrs werden analysiert und es wird skizziert, was getan werden kann, damit es auch in Zukunft noch möglich ist, mit dem Auto unterwegs zu sein. difuThere are many reasons why the car has become useful and dear to us. Since the 1950s, the number of cars has multiplied in the industrial world. In Austria, today there are 30 times more passenger cars than there were in 1955. The consequences of mass motorization are manifold. Doubtlessly, individual motor car traffic brings about an increase in personal mobility, but the reverse of the medal shows in the high risk of road traffic accidents, while more and more natural resources are used up and CO2 emissions are rising. The publication sums up facts and figures about automobility and its limitations viewed as opportunities. It poses the critical question whether for society as a whole, the disadvantages of the present system of mobility by now outweigh its benefits. In addition to an analysis of the trends on raising the efficiency of passenger car traffic, it gives an outline of the measures that have to be taken if we want to use the car for mobility also in the future. difu
