Abstract
Strategic Noise Mapping according to the END (environmental noise directive 2002/49/EC) is performed at the University of Applied Sciences Trier, location Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, for the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and of the Saarland, Germany, in the context of a R&D-project. In Rhineland-Palatinate approximately 1 200 km street network have to be regarded, in the Saar-Region 250 km. Besides pre-studies for the general approach, the overall work described in this paper includes the performing of the noise mapping, the composing of a manual as well as the development of an adequate data management and an Internet MapService. The latter has to be established to provide citizens and experts with the resulting digital maps. In addition, the fundamental data requirements for strategic noise mapping but also aspects regarding the data quality for the successful realization of the isophone maps are explained.
