Towards a more compact city - the plan for London.

Abstract

Der London Plan aus dem Jahre 2004 ist das erste Beispiel für eine neue Gattung Regionalplan, der sich als sehr wirkungsvoll erwiesen und das Leitbild Londons als Modell einer kompakten und nachhaltigen Weltstadt etabliert hat. Der Beitrag zeichnet die wechselvolle Geschichte der Planungen in Englands Hauptstadt nach und beschreibt die Grundzüge des jüngsten Plans, der im Verlauf der Geschichte erst die zweite für die Stadtregion "Greater London" verbindliche Planung darstellt. Der Autor konzentriert sich danach auf eines der sechs Ziele des Plans, die verbindlich vorgeschriebene Innenentwicklung, und bewertet die dafür vorgesehenen Planungsinstrumente.The London Plan, published in 2004, is a spatial strategy, the first example in England of a new type of regional plan. It has proved to be very influential, establishing a clear vision for London as an "exemplary, sustainable world city". The paper charts the turbulent history of planning in the UK's capital and then describes the main features of this latest plan, which is only the second statutory plan to be completed for Greater London. It then concentrates upon one of the six objectives of the plan which is "to accommodate London's growth within its boundaries without encroaching on open spaces" and it evaluates the ways that have been proposed to achieve this.
