Abstract

Aufgrund geographischer, stadtstruktureller wie politischer Rahmenbedingungen ist Freiburg eine Stadt, die auf dem Weg zur klimaneutralen Kommune eine Vorreiterrolle einnehmen kann. Die Stadtentwicklung zeichnet sich durch eine lange planerische Tradition nach dem Leitbild der europäischen, kompakten Stadt aus. Aktuelle planerische Ansätze bei den Themen Energie, Wirtschaft, Nahversorgung und Mobilität greifen dieses Erbe auf und entwickeln die Stadt weiter in Richtung Nachhaltigkeit und klimaneutrale Stadt. Trotz vieler vorbildhafter Strategien und Maßnahmen verbleiben aber noch Defizite, Konflikte und ungeklärte Fragen. Der Freiburger Weg zur klimaneutralen Stadt wird nur erfolgreich sein und Akzeptanz finden, wenn neben der Klimaneutralität auch die bislang die Stadtentwicklung tragenden sozialen, ökonomischen und ökologischen Leitvorstellungen Bestand haben und sich Freiburg auch in Zukunft durch Atmosphäre, Lebensqualität und Identität auszeichnet.As a result of geographical, urban structural as well as political conditions, Freiburg is a city that can take up the role of a pioneer on the way towards a climate-neutral municipality.
