Abstract
Genesis, state and perspectives of large housing estates in eastern Central Europe. In the post-socialist countries of eastern Central Europe about 10 million dwellings in large housing estates of the 1960-1980's exist. Nearly every second urban inhabitant is living in such a dwelling. Thus the settlement of industrial mass housing construction shape the structure and the image of many cities in Eastern Europe and are often the dominant form of housing. With the upheavals in the societies of the post-socialist countries major changes in the paradigms of urban development were connected which do not remain without impacts on the large housing estates. In the article basic problems of the current development of the estates are indicated and their consequences for the medium-term perspectives of these areas in eastern Central Europe are presented. difu
