Abstract

Die urbane Landschaft am Oberrhein hat sich im Schutz der Deiche unabhängig von der Dynamik des Wassers entwickelt. Die Hochwassergefahr ist ausgeblendet. Allerdings können die wechselnden Wasserstände im Falle eines Extremereignisses noch immer gefährlich sein und sie sind noch immer eine zentrale, wenn auch im Alltag unbeachtete, Eigenschaft des Terrains. Der Umgang mit den wechselnden Wasserständen und den damit verbundenen Risiken und Chancen ist der Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit. Zentrale Haltung ist dabei nicht die Besetzung des Terrains, sondern das Sichtbarmachen, die Kultivierung und Nutzbarmachung sowie Weiterentwicklung der vorhandenen Potenziale für integrierte Konzepte. Ziel ist die Kultivierung der vorhandenen Potenziale für den Umbau der urbanen Landschaft zu einem attraktiven und zugleich anpassungsfähigen Terrain.The urban development of the river basin of the Upper Rhine takes place protected by levees, without any respect to the dynamics of the water. However, varying water levels might still be dangerous in any case of flood hazards. The dynamics of water are an essential characteristic of the terrain yet, but unnoticed in everyday life. Risks and changes are essential but unvalued features of the shifting terrain. Local conditions and specific features, the structure and characteristics of the terrain, are not only the starting positon for future development, but also stimulate new concepts and uses. The visualization, cultivation and reclaiming of the terrain is the source for integrated design concepts. The interaction of all players and institutions with the dynamics of water is essential to envision life within an attractive and adaptable terrain on the Upper Rhine.
