In the case of commercial goods vehicles, the adoption of a multitude of technical and organizational measures allows savings in fuel and CO2 emission. For truck operators, the deciding factor is whether such savings could turn out to be an economically viable proposition. An investigation carried out by the Dualen Hochschule Baden-Württemberg has shown that, based on the specially created costing model TRUCK 2.0 - that excluded the use of bio diesel and hybrid vehicles - all these factors appear advantageous to business companies. The combination of cost savings and environmental protection appears to be an ideal proposition that has been confirmed by a recent investigation carried out by the BME in collaboration with the Dualen Hochschule. As a long term trend, "Green Logistics" could be conducive to generating more advantageous costs and competition. The investigation has also shown that economic efficiency resulting from CO2 reduction measures much depends on the price level for diesel fuel inclusive ofmineral oil tax. Transport policy should serve as a basis for evaluating the realignment of the tax system more with usage-related factors in order to foster innovations in the field of CO2, emission savings.
