Abstract
This study analyzes different types of public transport customer in terms of information behaviour before and during their trip. To segment customers by their information behaviour various factors influencing this behaviour were tested. A new factor route and usage frequency was introduced. It was expected that regular users of the transport system would have a particular intense need of information once they use bus or tram on routes other than their daily route. An empirical analysis was conducted with onboard personal interviews in the city of Dresden. The results reveal the strongest relation between the amount of the information sought and the introduced factor frequency of using a particular route. The importance of information at stops is confirmed, especially for first time users but also for regular users travelling beyond their regular routes. Visitors and tourists need a relatively small but focused amount of information. This needs to be well prepared and should be present at major points of contact. Better information of frequent users requires more attention to reroutings and construction sites within the network as well as guidance at transfer stops. difu
