Mit dem Informationssystem können Stand und Entwicklung raumordnungsrechtlich verbindlicher Festlegungen von Raumordnungsplänen zu unterschiedlichen Themenbereichen deutschlandweit aus regionaler Perspektive untersucht werden. Der Beitrag diskutiert zunächst den Nutzen des ROPLAMO für die Evaluationsforschung. Grundlage für eine Evaluation des Outputs und des Outcomes von Raumordnungsplänen ist zunächst ein laufendes Monitoring ihrer verbindlichen Vorgaben. Dieses muss flankiert werden durch das Monitoring der klassischen Raumbeobachtung, das Zeitreihendaten der administrativen Statistik und Geodaten zusammenträgt und für geo-statistische Analysen aufbereitet. Im Gegensatz zur gängigen Forschungs- und Evaluierungspraxis konzentriert sich der ROPLAMO-Ansatz systematisch auf eine vergleichende Methode.
