Abstract
The second edition is a comprehensive treatment of the twin processes of planning and development and the only book to bring the two fields together in a single text. Updated to reflect current practice, the case studies included in this text provide a clear understanding of the symbiotic relationship of these activities. The student is guided through the procedural and practical aspects of developing land. Town planning subject matters are explored from both development control and property development angles. Town planning content deals with planning law and process, planning appeals and specialist areas such as historic buildings, conservation areas, planning obligations and sustainable development. Revisions include new work on urban regeneration, dispute resolution, probity in local government, best value and reforms to the system post 2001 Green Paper. The development section deals with the whole development process from inception, through appraisal, valuation and finance to disposal of the completed project. There are specific sections dealing with the key issues affecting the retail, office, industrial and residential sectors. Revisions include new work on joint ventures and the private finance initiative, sustainability, PPG3 and PPG11, urban regeneration and design quality. The book is an invaluable text for all students of planning and real estate and all related courses.
